Jim Young was born in Oceanside, California. Until age nine, he and his family frequently moved about the country
before finally residing in Ridgecrest, California. Jim came to know the Lord at age 16 and performed in his first
theatrical production the same year. He played the devil in a musical production called Hi-Tops. While the
experience proved to be entertaining, Jim did not act again until his junior year of college, when he was dragged
"kicking and screaming" into an audition. He landed the role of Orlando in Shakespeare's As You Like It, and it
was here that Jim discovered his love for acting. He went on to appear in over 10 full scale productions, including
Death of a Salesman, The Foreigner and The Merchant of Venice.
Jim eventually went on to represent his college as the artistic director of their promotional comedy troupe, The
Delivery Boyz. As the artistic director, Jim was responsible for creating, writing and directing original material
for a four man comedy team. After graduation, Jim did a bit of extra work in Hollywood where he learned about a
Christian theatre company called Covenant Players. He joined in 1995 and was quickly promoted to the position
of a regional field manager and led various teams throughout North America for 7 1/2 years. During this time, he learned nearly 300
unique roles in a span of over 5,000 live performances. It was here that Jim met his wife, Shelby Young. They became co-leaders in the ministry and were eventually
married in Edmonton, Alberta Canada July 1, 2000. In 2002, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. Jim immediately became
involved in regional television and radio spots in the Pacific Northwest before landing the part of John in Pastor
Greg.
Jim developed a passion for writing in college and has been able to apply this skill to his various professions. He
has written two episodes for season one of Pastor Greg, and is currently writing for season two. In his spare time, he
has dabbled in a bit of community theatre, including roles in Neil Simon's Proposals and Other People's
Money. He also spent three years working with Youth For Christ as a middle school director.
