The newest project for CTVN and CHM is the Oasis Boys' Home. Because the Bethel orphanage is just not equipped to
handle teenage boys, these boys must leave Bethel around the age of 12 or 13. While preaching in a prison several hours
away from SLRC, Harold had a young man who was an inmate tap his shoulder and call him "Papa Harold". The only ones
who call him "Papa Harold" are the children at the orphanage. Harold discovered that this inmate had once been a child
in Bethel. On another occasion, Harold discovered one of the boys who had been in Betel as a young man in a drug rehab
center. Out of these experiences, the Father birthed a vision for a place where these young teen boys can go, be
discipled in the Word and learn a trade.
Oasis is design to be a complete training facility, teaching everything from the personal hygiene to trade skills and
most importantly the principles of the Word of God. Each young man will have responsibilities to carry out. Their day
will start with a devotion and study of the Word after breakfast. Those that can go to school will then head out to
one of the local public schools. The young men who cannot, for whatever reason, go to school, will then be involved in
a remedial reading and writing program to help them better communicate in Spanish.
After school, the boys will have lunch and a chance to work off some of that youthful energy with basketball, soccer,
volleyball and the like. They will learn how to play by the rules and develop skills for even these sports. If the
weather doesn.t permit outdoor activities, we hope to have a ping pong and futsbol table inside.
The afternoons will be spent learning computers, English or training for the trades. This training will include
drafting and safety procedures. We hope to have tradesmen from the States and Mexico who will be willing to instruct
the young men in the proper use of the tools and the principles necessary for each trade whether it is carpentry,
plumbing, electrical, masonry, or sheet metal working and welding.
In the evenings, those boys with school work will be helped with their assignments. The others will practice reading
and writing Spanish or English, spend time in the computer lab or working on a project. When all the work is done,
there will be time for relaxing with video or computer games, futsbol, reading a book from the in-house library or just
sharing with each other or one of the staff members.
Woven throughout this program will be a discipleship training program to ground these young men in the foundations of
the Word of God, teaching them of the love of the Father, how to pray and worship, the purpose and design of the
community of the believers (church), how to share their faith-evangelizing and preaching and the principles of
stewardship and giving.
It is our hope that, after a minimum of 2 years with us, these boys will have grown into young men who love the Lord
with all their hearts, have an attitude of service, a desire and ability to testify of God's goodness and be
sufficiently skilled to enter the workforce and be a contributing member of society.
