Chuck Hamby has been in ministry since 1961. He graduated from Central Bible College, Springfield, MO and later
attended Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California. He has pastored churches in Alabama,
Arkansas, Iowa, and Ohio. He has worked with Ron Hembree as associate pastor and as staff member on Good Friends, Inc.
Chuck was introduced to alcohol and drug rehab while pastoring in Ottumwa, IA. As president of two ministerial
associations, he was instrumental in getting both groups to assist the local hospital to become a regional health
center. The hospital needed to have a substance abuse treatment center to make the change. The ministers were
recruited to be "Fifth Step Listeners." The fifth step of AA is "Admitted to ourselves, to God, and to another human
being the exact nature of our wrongs."
Later in a church in Rockford, IL, Chuck became director of New Wine Fellowship. He instituted the 12-step program
there and did a booklet for the meetings. That booklet has been revised to become part of the Born To Be Free
series and is now called Born To Be Free: Your Journey to Freedom. While at
Rockford, Chuck furthered his training by participating in the New York State Core Curriculum in Syracuse, NY.
Chuck is currently working with us on the Born To Be Free series. He
lives in Trafford, PA.
