The President just declared this week that American kids don't spend enough time in school which puts them at a disadvantage with students around the world. "Now I know longer school days and school years are not wildly popular ideas ...but the challenges of a new century demand more time in the classroom" said the Pres earlier this year. --How about more time in the Sunday school classroom?
Supporting the president on this initiative is Education Secretary Arne Duncan who believes "young people in other countries are going to school 25-30% longer than our students here." But what Duncan did not stress is that kids in the US actually spend more hours in school than kids in Asian countries, (who typically score higher in aptitude tests than American children) they just attend more often with less hours.
But if our kids are already in school longer than most children around the world and they are doing worse what does that say about the institution of the public school in America? hmmm...and they want our children longer because they can infultrate their little noggins with more teachings geared toward evolution and safe sex practices? Not sure if I like that idea, do you?
